“To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king's matter.” Daniel 2:23
I was just promoted as an attending physician in August, 2025, as the only pediatric surgeon in Yunlin county. I got a phone call last week from a gynecologist that there was a baby with congenital diaphragmic hernia (CDH) born accidentally. He was under intubation with low setting. After seeing the baby, I accepted the challenge and prayed for God to give me the wisdom and strength to take care of him. I also asked several spiritual referral teams to pray for me. The morning of the surgical day, I woke up early, still nervous about the upcoming challenge. Then, I got a message from a Christian medical worker at another hospital that one nurse in their hospital fellowship had her nephew undergoing CDH surgery in our hospital. She asked me to pray and pay attention to the case. I told her that I was indeed the doctor doing the surgery.
God gave me surgical assistant and nurses that have been trained in CVS on that morning (2025/8/16). They were familiar with the special sutures with pledgets. The surgery went smoothly without respiratory decompression during the whole course. Moreover, the patient had a hernia sac which provided him only partial compression of the natural lung. After the surgery, while I was still waiting for the Xray, I met his mother and his aunt, and we shared both our experience on praying for the baby. We also exchanged our LINE contacts. I thank God that he gave me this opportunity to glorify his name and share faith stories to people around.
